Bubbles and Books

Kim has pointed out that Michael is like me in a few ways. We both seem to prefer sleeping during the daytime and partying at night. We both like eating more than normal people. And we both share a love for long, warm baths. Every other night I give Michael his bath, and he never has shown the slightest fear of the water. In fact, he seems to like alternating between being held and floating.

He's too young to really smile, but he does like to stare. When it comes time to dry off, he always gives me a look that says he would rather stay in the tub.

Part of the bath-time routine is a reading afterward. Michael is very interested in things with bright colors, so he usually pays close attention to the book.

At least, until he gets too drowsy . . .

Grandparents

This past month Aaron's parents and my parents came to meet Mikey. Sometimes we feel isolated living far from family, so it was really nice having family visit us. My mom just happened to be in Portland the day I went into labor. It was comforting to have her with me when I started having contractions and when Aaron and I left for the hospital. She was the first grandparent to see Mikey after he was born. I was pretty inexperienced caring for a newborn, so I am grateful for my mom helping me that first week (thanks, mom). I don't know what I would have done without her.

Mikey has since met both sets of grandparents. We enjoyed having them with us and watching Mikey get to know them. They all seemed to bond right away. Mikey loved the constant attention, admiration, and cuddles.

Aaron and I also appreciated the help the first few weeks. Thank you for taking care of Mikey while I took naps, for letting Aaron and me go on a date and run errands, for sharing your parenting wisdom, and for helping us around the house. We enjoyed your company and can't wait for your next visit!

Mikey's Blessing Day

Last weekend we were fortunate enough to have Aaron's parents and my dad in town for Mikey's blessing. Sunday was such a special day for our little family and it was nice to have the grandparents share the occasion with us. Mikey looked so handsome in his outfit that Grandma and Grandpa Corrales got him. Aaron gave a beautiful and eloquent blessing even though Mikey made his presence known by crying a little.
